Did you know that the ancient Egyptian game of senet greatly resembled backgammon and its moves were controlled by moves of the dice. Now you’ll probably say, "so is snakes and ladders my man", to which I would reply "but the board used in this game, looked quite similar to a backgammon board and had the same token structure too!", at which point you would murmur something intelligible and continue reading.
So thats that. But what prompted me write this post? Apparently, BackgammonMasters have applied for a Guiness Gamer World Record for the farthest toss of dice on backgammon board. Sounds interesting and perhaps even something one could try for a lark, however giant dice and a spare helicopter may be a bit of an issue. Confused? Read the press release below:
Online Backgammon Masters online game operator has applied for a Guinness Gamer World Record in farthest backgammon dice toss. The purpose of the event to announce and promote Backgammon Masters Backgammon Freeroll tournaments held every Tuesday and Friday at http://www.backgammonmasters.com . The plan is to toss 2 backgammon dice out of a helicopter 200-300 ft. up in the sky onto a 1 acre-sized gigantic backgammon board-shaped field in a HUGE backgammon tournament, and huge here refers to the size of the playing field and dice, checkers and the event itself.
